At IBJJA, we understand that starting something new can be both exciting and challenging. Rest assured, we are here to support you every step of the way! In this blog post, we want to provide you with some valuable tips and guidance that will help you make the most of your training experience during your Free 30-Day Trial:
- Slow Down!
Take your time during practice sessions and focus on performing techniques smoothly and correctly. Gradually increase your speed over time. - Ask Questions!
Don’t hesitate to seek clarification. There’s a good chance others have the same questions as you—our instructors and fellow students are always eager to help. - Relax!
Remember that the goal of training is not to win, but to improve your Jiu-Jitsu. Slow down, work on your techniques, and if you don’t know what to do, ask more questions! - Be Consistent.
Aim to attend at least 2-3 training sessions per week for optimal growth. Progress may seem slow in the beginning, but trust us, it’s a normal part of the learning process. - Stick to Fundamentals.
Focus on mastering the basics first! If you want to dive deeper into your training outside of class, we recommend exploring Coach James’s Foundation Curriculum at bjj.foundation. This incredible resource is now available to all new IBJJA Members! - Stay Healthy!
Prioritize your overall well-being by hydrating properly, getting plenty of quality sleep, eating nutritious foods, stretching, and incorporating strength conditioning into your routine. - Tap Early!
Don’t wait for a submission to cause significant pain. Learn to recognize your limits and tap early to prioritize safety and avoid unnecessary injuries. - Breathe, Don’t Panic.
As you progress, you’ll inevitably find yourself in challenging positions. Embrace the discomfort and focus on controlling your breathing. This mindset will help you navigate through tough situations with resilience.
